Rutas Guiadas – Free Walking Tours – Gata de Gorgos

The Gata Tourist Office is offering free walking tours of places of historic and traditional interest in the village of Gata de Gorgos. The walks take place on Friday mornings – see schedule on website

The guide will provide explanations in Spanish and/or English as required. Some help may be available in other languages. The forthcoming tours are:

Friday 21st July 10.00 am.

Religious ceramic wall plaques.

Most visitors never notice these but I believe that there are about 20 in all. The tour will pass by some of these explaining the historical, religious and traditional significance of these wall plaques which are often dedicated to the patron saint of the house.

Friday 28th July 10.00 am

Urban Tour

Walking tour through the village highlighting places of historical and local interest. Although the urban area of Gata has changed throughout the years and centuries, much of the history can still be seen amongst the more modern buildings.

Friday 25 August 10.00 am.

Art al Vent.

ART AL VENT is the most important international outdoor exhibition of textile art creation in Spain. It is based on the tradition of hanging quilts from balconies at the time of local processions.

In October through to December other walking tours are offered, highlighting the historic features such as the Riuraus, the water mills and the wash house.

The groups will be small but they need enough people to make it worthwhile.

If you are interested in participating in any of these walking tours, please let me know asap – and at least 2 days before the tour, and I will make arrangements with the Tourist Office.
