Sunday Strollers Report 2021 – 2022

Comes-Loop

A key feature of this year’s programme was the unsettled weather. This meant that we had to postpone some walks and we cancelled one completely. Having said that, we managed 7 walks. The maximum turnout was 21 and the minimum was 10. The aim of these walks is to get people out walking and chatting. All groups were different but friendly and enthusiastic. It was, as always, a pleasure to lead each group.

  1. September – Rompedutes and Mont Roig. This is a little used track which goes parallel to the N332 and then veers off into the Campo and takes in the new Railway track. It has been interesting to see how this has developed over the year.
  2. October – Comes loop. This goes up from the primary school toward the Font de La Mata and goes off into the Campo. Here we met up with a group of hunters and their large pack of podencos. That was quite exciting.
  3. November – La Sella & Bisserot. From the golf course we make our way to Jesus Pobre and then back towards the Bassa del Moro, an ancient water course and depósito.
  4. January – Gata Cemetery and Forandons – Starting at the Cemetery this walk has superb views of Montgó and the Campo towards Javea.
  5. February – La Rana and Ford – During this visit we saw the newly planted gardens near the Gata lavadero and negotiated the ford with only one person reporting slightly wet feet …. Except the dogs of course.
  6. May – Beniarbeig Town and Beyond – This was full of interest including the cemetery, impressive view from the hills to Segaría and Montgó. We also stopped to look at the house of a gynaecologist in the hill above Beniarbeig. Back in town we passed the new auditorium, the new hotel and restaurant, the footbridge and river Girona which was in full flow after all the rains. We then went into the park where there was the obligatory photo call by the rescued bridge arch. After crossing the water on the low footbridge, we went into the Campo and its orange trees before returning to the parking area near the new school.
  7. May – Bancal del Flores – The last walk of the season was held on a hot day but 16 people turned up to walk. The first half is mostly on rough paths going up but has some good views of Montgó and the new railway. The second half is on concrete and tarmac but is quite steep in places. The walk finished by a short detour down onto the river floor and the gardens on the western side of the river Gorgos.
