Weekend Walk – 23 Feb 2019 – Pedreguer Olives, Oranges and Vines

(With a splash of Almond blossom)

Saturday 23rd February 2019

It was a gloriously, warm spring day with a cloudless sky as we set off from the “poligono” (industrial estate) in Pedreguer. There was a total of 26 people and 6 dogs. We had 6 new people join us.

This meandering walk mixes modern living and rural landscapes. There are large buildings such as the modern sports’ complex and the “instituto” (Secondary School) and the motorway. Then going away from the main road, the route goes into the “campo” (countryside) with many orange groves and their trees still laden with fruit. The vines in their regimented rows have been pruned back to allow new growth.

The route took us mostly on tarmacked roads but there were a couple of semi-hidden paths which enabled us to zig-zag through the campo and back to our parking area 1½ hours later. As we approached the school, we were even lucky enough to see some of the almond blossom which was still in full bloom.
