Advice for rainy, windy days (Storms)

Above all in autumn, there is always a risk of dramatic changes in climate that can seriously affect our daily lives.

To stay as safe as possible in these circumstances follow these advice tips:

1.    Secure exterior doors and windows. Pull and close your persianas fully down and ensure they are in their guides.

2.    Take in from balconies, terraces and gazebos everything that could be taken away by the wind such as flowerpots, furniture, sunshades, decorations etc. as they can become objects which present a risk of danger from falling onto public highways.

3.    Take in and secure awnings as well as persianas that are not fully seated in their guides.

4.    Secure TV & radio antennas, electric banners, scaffolding, cranes and, in general, those parts of your house or place of work that can fall in public areas.

5.    Don´t protect yourself from the wind by standing next to walls, mud walls, fences or trees due to the danger of their falling either completely or partially.

6.    Travel cautiously through streets, especially narrow ones with old buildings or those in construction where there is a danger from falling cornices, roofs and other material.

7.    Periodically check coverings, terraces, guttering, downpipes and water drains, removing any material which obstructs the flow and drainage of rain water, to avoid flooding and overflowing of the same.

8.    Check the correct functioning of drains and extraction pumps in garages and basements.

9.    Don´t touch lights, cables or electric posts. Disconnect electrical apparatus and TV antennas during high storms.

10. Drive with care. Don´t try to drive near trees or park your vehicle under the same, nor near to walls and fences.

11. Before any impending risk situation call the Police or Fire Service.
