Meeting with Toni Signes 17th Jan 2023

Notes on a meeting on 17th Jan 2023, between Louise Kirkley, President Los Amigos de Gata, and Toni Signes, Councilor for Urbanism and Deputy Mayor

  1. Urbanisation issues.

Rubble at the lower entrance. Note that the area containing the refuse containers, which extends to where the Gas tank is, was purchased by the developers of Gata Park. The area to the left of this (as viewed from the road) is owned by the council and was allocated to be used for a school or sports facility however, there are no specific plans for any development currently. The council has been using this area to store rubble pending any development. Unfortunately some infected plants/trees called Xylella were detected in the area across the road and consequently this area and also part of the council area had to be treated. This is why the area was cleared of vegetation. Toni said that at some point the area will be cleared of rubbish.

The Olive trees at the entrance have been treated and the area is now safe.

The council have received a subsidy to reduce the fire risk in Gata by clearing forest areas. One of the areas that will be tidied is in the Jardin de las Hadas (Fairy Park) bordered by M12b, M17 and M18. The lower branches of the pine trees and ground litter will be removed. This work was undertaken a few weeks ago. The next phase is to clean the rest of the park.

Separately, Louise pointed out that weeds are growing aggressively in some streets and are beginning to damage the pavements and roads as well as adding to the fire risk. Toni said that he would try to get this work included in the above clearance project. A new Company is continuing the work across the urbanisation including the cutting back of plant growth on the waste ground on Pins.

Processional Catapillars

I have asked Toni if there is anything that can be done. I will let you know.

Manhole coversToni is doing a site visit to look at the manhole covers and will forward the report to the Architect.

Site Adoption.

Some good news, in a few weeks Site Survey work will begin. A company will be looking into all the works that will be needed to enable this urbanisation to be accepted. Toni did say some time ago that only the essential works would go ahead however, Gata Council have been told by a higher authority that all the works required for adoption will have to be paid by the Council.

Street Lighting

A new company has now been awarded the contract, the company is based in Benissa but the person who will carry out works is from Pedreguer. I have informed Toni of the problem of no lights or partial lighting in Pins and Tarrongers, For further information, if you need to report any problems this needs to be done through the local Police who will then follow this up.

Correos.

All of Gata has been affected by the problems with Correos, also Pedreguer and Ondara. Toni is currently talking with his counterparts in Pedreguer and Ondara but no decision has been made on what action is to be taken. Toni also said that the current post boxes will be replaced with new ones under the adoption works and that new post box positions may also be investigated. This work has be done with the approval of the Correos. Toni has asked Teulada to undertake deliveries in the afternoons as well as the mornings. Toni is aware that some residents have experienced not only the loss of personal communications but also financial costs as a result of letters not being delivered, for example Suma fines for cars, Ibi or rubbish, If you have received a fine from Suma and you want to complain you will need to do this yourself through the suma office in Pedreguer. Toni believes that Teulada are employing people on short contracts which is exacerbating the difficulties as the individuals concerned have no geographic knowledge of our area.To try and ease this problem site plans of our urbanisation have been issued to the Correos in Teulada. I will keep you informed of any further updates.

PLOTS FOR SALE/HOUSES FOR SALE

The plots of land that are currently for sale can be purchased but the council will not allow any building to take place until the urbanisation has been accepted which will take at least two years. The empty houses on M20 Carrer de Les Carrasqueres and M25 on Dels Xops can be sold . There are also houses for sale on Pins M12a.
