Notes on a meeting on 27th July 2022 with Toni Signes

Notes on a meeting on 27th July 2022, between Louise Kirkley, President Los Amigos de Gata, Peter Bayliss and Toni Signes, Councilor for Urbanism and Deputy Mayor

  1. Urbanisation issues.

Fire prevention. Louise requested that the area of waste ground at the top entrance be cleaned to reduce the potential fire risk.

Toni stated that in the event of a fire, residents would be advised what to do by Proteccion Civil and Bomberos. ( Note. see also Advice on what to do in the case of fire )

Toni will investigate whether the water hydrants in the parks are operational.

Speeding vehicles. It might be possible to install more “speed bumps” in the road, but it was agreed that these generally create more problems than they solve.

Toni said that the noisy manhole covers would be fixed after the Fiestas. Also those that cannot be opened.

Street lights. Apparently, the street lights at the top of Tarongers and Pins are on for an excessive time due to a broken timeswitch. This will be fixed in due course,

Site Adoption. Progress is currently being help up by a financial and legal dispute with the engineering company contracted to manage the works by Bertolin.

The money available in the Aval is now unlikely to cover all the work that needs to be carried out, but Toni confirmed again that he does not expect that Gata Residencial owners will be liable for any additional costs.

Peter requested an electronic copy of the Site Map for the website.

Postboxes. Some of the houses on the urbanisation do not have a buzon (postbox) and also some of the postboxes in use need repair. These issues will be rectified using money from the Aval. The council architect is preparing a plan for the new layout of postboxes. Louise requested sight of this plan so we can advise residents.

However, Correos need to agree any changes to the buzones and since their reorganisation they have not been cooperative in attempting to resolve any issues. The manager has cancelled three scheduled meetings with Toni and is proving difficult to contact by phone. Nevertheless Toni will continue trying to meet with him. Peter and Louise reported that there are numerous cases of post being placed in the wrong buzones. It is not clear whether the post is in fact being delivered from Teulada as previously reported but several residents have noticed that they have not received any post for more than three weeks.

Toni mentioned that they are hoping that the Valencian government would assign 1.5 M€ to ensure that our water can be supplied to us from the town´s supply as a backup in case of the failure of our well.

  1. Other issues

Street cleaning and trees.

The Ayuntamiento believes that Solgata may have taken on too much responsibility for managing public facilities and next year the tree pruning etc. on Gata Residencial may be managed differently.

Louise offered to arrange for the Carob tree at the bottom of Tarongers to be pruned but Toni emphasised that this is a Town Hall responsibility. He welcomed our efforts such as the Party in the Park.

Basura and recycling

Solgata are focussing on a combination of three options

  1. Door to door collection
  2. Concentrating on a single collection point that can be access controlled and eventually monitored by video
  3. Adding some extra collection points

Peter observed that these solutions are focussed on the particular problem of mis-use of the collection areas. however it is well established that the best way to increase the effectiveness of recycling is to increase the number of collection points.

Toni also mentioned that there will be local elections next year and to be eligible to vote, residents will need to ensure that they are registered on the Padron in September.
